None can break the ancient Sisters' iron decrees. [Nov. 27th, 2018|03:51 pm]
To the Moirai the might of Zeus must bow; and by the Immortals' purpose all these things had come to pass, or by the Moirai's ordinance. )

[Sphinx]

A father had twelve children, and each child had thirty sons and daughters, the sons being white and the daughters black, and one of these died every day, and yet became immortal. How was this so?

Hey, dickhead.

You want to wait for your entire family to disappear, or you gonna turn yourself in already?

[Atropos] Backdated, minutes after Theon's death. [Mar. 29th, 2009|10:52 am]
Well, this is inconvenient.

Shit. Bloody Christians.

Boys. Seems your brother has pulled a little Houdini on us. In case you get any ideas from him, you are ordered neither to take your own lives nor permit anybody else to.

And one of you will have to finish the regrouting in the bathroom.

Theon, Theon. Such a thoughtful boy. If you'd wanted to wash all the linens by hand, you know you only needed to ask. No need to go tiptoeing around spilling paint, dear. Or perhaps you felt we weren't making enough work for you ourselves. Oh, my darling nephew! How thoughtless of me! Well, let's see if we can't go about rectifying that, shall we? After you've washed, dried and folded all the sheets (tap water will be sufficient this time, my boy), the tiles need regrouting in the shower. Of course, they'll need a proper scrub before you get to that; I've left some cleaning agents and a toothbrush that should be equal to the task. Try not to confuse it with the toothbrushes by the sink, nephew, I'd hate for you to have to start over.

Meanwhile, I'm delighted Xeno has volunteered to clean and disinfect his aunt's room. Fresh out of toothbrushes, I'm afraid, but don't you worry, dear, we'll find you something. I'd be thorough if I were you, Lachesis can be such a stickler for neatness. In fact, best do it twice just to be sure.

Arsen, hm. You can rehome the rat one of you was so thoughtful to hide in Clo's dresser drawer. Somewhere outside. Now the repairs are done and the new glass is in the shop needs a new lick of paint, inside and out. There's no need to take initiative with the colour scheme, 'Chesis has already bought the paint. She'll tell you what she wants. No shortcuts, now; I expect a spotless job.

My sister is somewhat... abrasive in her manner, but she speaks only out of concern for our family and the Loom.

We know Eris speaks the truth, at least when she says that you have hurt her. I can even understand why you might, to a degree. You have borne a lot from the Greeks; Eris in particular. Her crimes against your family are grave ones, and there are those even in her own pantheon who might argue she is getting no more than she deserves.

We also recognise that it would do nobody any good to make this publicly known. I've no doubt you are intelligent enough to have seen to it that there is no evidence to be found. Even had you been more sloppy about it, our kind is weak. The days of Olympus are well behind us, however much some of us might wish to recapture them. You and your siblings are the reigning powers now, and we would be nothing short of foolish to even attempt to extract retribution.

I have no place dictating to you how you conduct your own affairs. Instead, I can only hope to appeal to your better nature, to the god who espouses values of harmony and peace. To the god who once risked his own safety simply to protect some fading myths from more suffering.

Eris is contained. In her present state, she is no threat to you or any of your family. Torture... well, forgive me if I sound hypocritical, as the member of a pantheon not generally known for having measured reactions, but it does not seem particularly worthy of you.

I don't care who's screwing Mary Jane's mortals. It's when one of you starts screwing with their life-threads that I get pissed off. Own up, now. Which one of you idiots has been playing god?

Well, fuck.

Hades is looking for her. He intends to deal with her personally.

We need to find Eris before he does. She has to be punished - swiftly, harshly and publicly - but it should be done by her parents' hand. This is Night's jurisdiction and it may be the crazy bitch's best chance at survival.

The Loom has changed, and the threads begin to realign themselves.

[private to Hades]

Your act of treason does not sit well with us, and nor do your efforts to rewrite history. They will not be without their consequences.

However, now is not the time for disunity. You have the power to lead us out of this crisis. And you have our counsel, should you ask for it.

If Thunderbolt will not lead us, then it falls to us to organise ourselves.

The time for petty squabbling is past. We cannot afford to fragment our pantheon further.

This is what I propose: Regardless of what you may believe about Eris or Ares, or any of our number, we must stand together in this or all of us will fall. Leave your grievances aside until after this crisis is resolved.

We need to arrange another meeting. Find out where we are. And once and for all, decide on a way forward.

Athena, Hera, your advice would be valued.

I'm afraid. Is it wrong to admit that?

I know what must happen. I've seen the patterns in the Loom. We all have. But it doesn't make it any easier to watch.

I've seen death and war aplenty - among gods and humans alike - from Iraq, to the Civil War, all the way back to old Troy. It's not something to take joy in, but I accept it as part of the Task. I understand its necessity. What value would the spindle and life-thread have if there was no prospect of the Crone's shears?

Fate is not right or wrong. It just is. It's natural, and necessary.

But this doesn't feel natural.

This morning 'Chesis went out to run some errands. Nowhere too far, just a little way uptown. But while she was gone, there was one point - one horrible moment where she just... wasn't there. For about half a minute. We couldn't feel her, we couldn't even feel her hands on the Loom. If it had gone on any longer... Well. We've all been sticking close to the apartment since then.

I can't get it out of my head, though. It was like nothing I'd ever experienced - like a whole third of me had just dropped away into thin air. It was terrifying. And then I start to think about all the naiads and the satyrs and the cyclopes and those poor dryads in Central Park, and I just...

I've seen war. I've seen gods killing humans, and I've seen gods killing each other. This isn't either of those things. This is gods killing belief... it's genocide. And that frightens me.

How is everybody holding up?

Twelve dryads.
Four anthousai.
Seven naiads.
Two lamiae.
Four satyrs.
One gigos.
One centaur.
Three cyclopes.
One melia.
One aura.

And Clo won't stop crying.

Fuck.

You would think that after two hundred and twenty years of inaugurations, certain people would have learned how to behave themselves.

Atropos got us kicked out of five separate inaugural balls. I think that's a new record for her.

Also, I have a feeling she might have been hitting on Rahm Emanuel at some point.
